Special Rules for 2020

Please note that these special rules and policies are in addition to (and in some cases supersede) the Standing Rules and Policies. Please read both sets of rules carefully before coming to the pond.

Valley Pond is a beautiful natural environment which can offer its membership an important respite for all-around health and wellness every summer and especially during the Covid-19 pandemic. We recognize that individuals have different opinions and are facing different exposure risks.

We will probably adjust the rules as we see what works, and what health authorities will allow. Waterfront Director David Trant will use his best judgement to resolve any issues. Please be kind to the staff as they will be following his directives. If you have any concerns, please speak to David directly. Cooperation and collaboration is required between everyone at Valley Pond. If members don’t adhere to these rules, they will become more restrictive.

Pre-registering for visits
  • A maximum of 30 people (excluding staff) may be at the pond any given time.

  • Online signup for a 90-minute block is required before arriving. Shareholders who have paid their summer fees will be sent the signup link via email.

  • Each Friday at 6:00 p.m., a new set of visitation blocks will be released for the upcoming week (Sunday to Saturday).

  • Members may sign up for no more than one block per day.

  • If you sign up for a block but change your plans, PLEASE go online and cancel your block so another family may take your place.

  • Shareholders and summer members may not bring guests, even if they are relatives. Those who visit the pond must be registered summer members (e.g., the shareholder and any others in the shareholder’s household whom they elect to register).

  • If someone has not checked in within the first 15 minutes of their slot, they are a no-show and that spot becomes available for another family.

At the pond
  • Members are required to wear face masks at all times on the property except while swimming and eating/drinking.

  • Members must remain in family groups and must practice social distancing at all times, both on land and in the water.

  • The water will be closed for the last 10 minutes of each visitation window to allow people to pack up and to permit the staff to clean and disinfect surfaces.

  • Extending a visit is permitted if the upcoming time period is not at capacity.

  • Each dock can accommodate one family only.

  • Bathrooms are for staff use only. Exceptions will be made for emergencies.

  • Pack in/pack out — no trash barrels will be provided, so please take your trash home with you.

  • Chairs and picnic tables are arranged to insure social distancing and should not be moved. Feel free to bring your own chairs or picnic blankets.

  • Valley Pond will not provide equipment for volleyball, corn hole or tetherball.

  • No water toys will be provided, but you may bring your own.

  • No boats for public use will be put in the boating pond, but you are welcome to bring your own small, nonmotorized boat. Stand-up paddleboards are not allowed.

  • No parties.

  • No swim lessons.

Staff safety
